Let's start at the beginning...

Let me tell you a story.....

In 2003, I met Joseph Allen at York College. I immediately wanted to get to know him better. So I did what any self respecting girl would do to let him know that...I stalked him. Okay, stalked is a strong word. More like covert and aggressive pursuing.

Anyhow, on our very first date, I met a very special woman, his mother Catherine. She was funny, sassy, unique and every bit of the woman who made the man I love a great man. What I didn't know then was that she had early-onset Alzheimer's. At first, I didn't know what that meant or what that was.But now, over the course of the years, I have learned a great deal and seen much more. And this has spurred me into action.

So I'm running a marathon. This time, it's the big one, ING NYC Marathon. In the 10 years I've been with my husband, I've watched my mother-in-law's health change and have its ups and downs. But throughout all of this, she has never lost her spirit and her fight. Because she has endured so much because of this disease, I want to embrace and honor that spirit by challenging myself to run 26.2 miles to help her and others like her. I'm doing this in honor of my father-in-law John, my sister and brother in law Michelle and Shawn who give so much to be there for her and take care of her. I'm doing this for my husband Joseph who wouldn't be here if it wasn't for her love and strength. I'm doing it for my daughter Jolie who loves her Grandma very much.

I decided to this blog to chronicle my training, give you guys updates, share photos, inspiration, random thoughts about everything. Please continue to check this blog for updates.  Also, please share the link for my fundraising page as well.

Help me honor, help me run, help me persevere. Please help me by donating, spreading the word and providing the encouragement that I need to cross the finish line.

Forever grateful,

Cherice
